Cedros Island, Mexico - Team Pelagic's Duane Broadway of Cedros Adventures shared these photos with us recently. The California Yellowtail is a hard-fighting and great eating gamefish species. These fish aggregate offshore when younger under floating kelp patties or found as mature "homeguards" near rocky island structures. Ranging from Southern California and all along the Baja coast and it's high spots and islands, these iconic So-Cal gamefish, when hungry, will eat anything from mackerel to iron lures to plastic swimbaits and anything in between. Landing a 50-plus pound Yellowtail is a lifelong dream for many anglers, but hooking into one of 20-pounds or more will put you into an increbible fight unexpected by a fish of it's size.
