As a kid, Roy grew up splitting time between Massachusetts and Southern California. On both coasts, the ocean played a significant role Roy's life. Summers were spent with his father, frequently on trips to San Quintin [Baja, Mexico], where he taught Roy many skills in the water... How to fish, dive, and surf.
As a teenager, Roy's hobby of freedive spearfishing turned into an obsession. When Roy wasn't in class, he was in the water hunting halibut or lobster if the clarity permitted.
After high school, Roy attended the California Maritime Academy where he earned a degree in marine transportation and a 3rd Mate unlimited license. While in school, Roy became great friends with a few guys who shared the same passion for spearfishing. Together, they pushed each other to improve. Roy started doing well in local and national level competitions, so he began traveling to more remote places with whatever funds his crew could scrape up.
Since graduating in 2010, Roy has been working on large commercial ships all over the world with the benefit of having 6 months out of the year off to pursue his dreams. Roy still spends a fair bit of time in Californian and New England waters, but what truly thrills Roy is traveling to new places, experiencing different cultures, and chasing exotic species of gamefish with friends. Making memories and enjoying a fresh caught dinner from the sea is what it's all about!
Big thanks to PELAGIC for their continued support throughout the years!
